Liberals Helped Create Trump’s New Bogeyman, the “Alt-Left”

Aug 16, 2017 13:58

The term was coined by the right-wing as a slur. Then it was adopted by the left's would-be allies.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday introduced a new nemesis to join the “fake news” media, Crooked Hillary, and Mexican rapists: the alt-left. “What about the alt-left?” Trump raged at a press conference at Trump Tower, seething over demands that he ( Read more... )

please. even if ~liberals~ never uttered the term alt-left, hannity and his crew would have still said it just as a response to alt-right. it's too bad no one thought of a better term for the leftists who advocated for less identity politics and got angry at 35-year-old plus Black women who rejected Bernie.

Pitching alternative histories in which you think something might've still happened is a fun thought exercise, but it doesn't really change the fact that in this reality, establishment democrats and their media mouthpieces decided to invent a term that equated nazis with leftists who want free healthcare because it was easier than admitting their party and candidate were flawed.

I'd also point out that this comparison also heavily relies on equating a Jewish man and his supporters with literal Nazis and white nationalists, just in case the antisemitism of centrist media and the Democratic Party was still in doubt.

Alternative histories. So leftists dismissing the South and Southern voters, who were mostly Black btw, as irrelevant, stupid confederates didn't happen? You're not going to convince me of shit I witnessed here and on twitter didn't happen.

Joy Ann Reid, the host of MSNBC’s AM Joy

it's still ridiculous that joy reid some how became an enemy.

and it's kind of fucked to accuse a Black woman of aiding fascism and not admitting that maybe the dirtbag left has a race problem that might have made her think using the term alt-left was wise. and like i said, the far right would have blamed liberals and leftists no mater what.

Yes. and saying she aided fascism by saying alt-left is dishonest imo when her Black skin is enough for those people.

They did the same thing with "fake news" despite people warning them of how easily that would be twisted against them. Not shocking that the #Resistance ended up being unwitting propagandists for white nationalists and Nazis, since liberals are the favorite useful idiots of fascism.

They should stick to what their good at, throwing money at Republicans to help them rebuild campaign offices in districts with heavy voter disenfranchisement. The whole "resisting the rise of fascism" thing isn't their lane.

The new "the First Amendment is EVIL!!" thing bothers me a lot, along with people who are like "I SAY WHAT I WANT FREE SPEECH!!" with little understanding of the nuances

Antifa can go back to the hole it crawled out from though. I have zero sympathy for a group that wants to intimidate by destruction and violence.

nooot impressed

Protecting is awesome. Destroying property and hurting bystanders and intimidation tactics not so much. Very quick way to have mob mentality and even more carnage.
