With hundreds of activists facing felony charges, critics say Trump has emboldened authorities across the United States.

It sounds like states need to clearly define with a riot is. Because after reading this I'm honestly not sure how some of these protects were labeled as riot and looking it up the federal law is very broad and every state seems to define the details differently and some cities make it different still.

An other note
dozens of anti-protest bills have been introduced in state legislatures across the country, many of which seek to introduce harsher penalties for actions such as blocking traffic

I do believe most of these bills go to far and violate the first amendment but this part I fully support. If you want to do something that blocks a road get a permit and make sure the locals have notice otherwise I fully support you being charged, you're right to free speech and protect do not give anyone the right to unfairly burden other peoples lives.

But you don't have a right to be paid attention to. You have the right to speak, write or protect but you don't have the right to demand or force anyone to listen, read or watch what you say or so. They have to choose to.
