A group of well-known local Democrats will collect campaign cash later this month -- for a Republican.

Miami Rep. Carlos Curbelo will attend an Aug. 23 fundraising reception hosted by nine Democrats, including former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Homestead Mayor Jeff Porter and Florida City Mayor Otis Wallace, according to an invitation to the event.

it just seems strange because...wouldn't miami (since it's a larger city) be a place where democrats could win. i wish democrats would stop trying to appeal to republicans, i mean apparently some democrats are pushing for the party to allow/support anti-choice politicians? NO THANKS.

Given that all the dems supporting him are local I assume this has a lot to do with interpersonal politics. It doesn't look like the state or national party is giving him the time of day.

It would definitely suck to be Murcarsel-Powell in this situation, whether she wins the election or not. She looks like a pretty impressive candidate, though, and I hope she kicks his ass.
