The Undoing Of The Donald

May 20, 2017 22:22

After yesterday’s Presidential press conference with Trump and Columbian President Juan Manuel Santos, which devolved into a crackdown of the press hijacking their facetime with Trump to ask him about the Russia investigation, I’m beginning to think we’re watching a great tragedy unfold to a satisfying conclusion ( Read more... )

As horrible as Pence would be, I'd be a lot less worried about him starting WWIII than I am with Trump,

Mister Fundamentalist Christian who tanked his state so hard the ONLY viable way to keep his political future alive was to accept the VP to get out of gubertorialrship... right...

know about his track record, but he still scares me a lot less than Trump, and if I have to choose who will be in charge of the nuclear codes, I would take Pence over the giant orange man baby who currently has the ability to blow up the entire planet.

Besides, what’s the alternative? Roll over and play dead while Trump continues to run rampant, doing anything he bloody well pleases and never having to face any consequences? That's not acceptable to me. If 45 has done even a fraction of what he's suspected of doing, he should not be allowed to contine getting away with it.

True, Pence is a problem, but afaic, his awfulness is a completely separate issue from the horror that is Trump. If dealing with Trump means we have to deal with a Pres. Pence later on, then we will deal, when and if. Whether the veep is Satan incarnate or walks on water is immaterial, imo, to the question of how Trump  should be dealt with.

The alternative is to work - really and truly work and invest - in the midterms, as someone below has mentioned.

TBH at this point and time the constant "This time Trump will DEFINITELY get impeached and/or go down in flames, DEFINITELY, this is it!!" is tiring and distracting. Whether Trump or Pence, there's a whole lot of awful stuff that is going down (like FCC net neutrality, Obama-era protections, the Afghan surge that's likely happening, etc.) that is happening regardless of which bumbling moron is on television and in the driver's seat.

Great article, gives me a bit of hope (and pisses me off all over again as well.) As my late mother would say, from your lips to God's ears...

It gives me hope, too. As bad as things are, I refuse to succumb to the kind of defeatism I see being frequently posted in this community. Giving up just means the bad guys have already won.

Do we really think the GOP-controlled Congress will impeach him? Sure they'd prefer Pence, but they're also afraid of pissing off The Tangerine Turd's base. Will they have the guts, conscience and will to do the right thing? Because all I've seen of Repug politicians is sociopathy. It's like a compulsory requirement to run for office under the GOP banner.

And I'm not wild about Pence either. He, along with the GOP-controlled Congress, will have a whale of a time stripping away the rights of everyone who is not white, male, Christian or straight. Honestly, the choice between Drumpf and Pence is like having to choose between burning to death and being eviscerated by Freddy Krueger. Neither is appealing.

Who is Mike Pence, as explained by Samantha Bee:

The best we can hope for is hobbling the tRump administration at every point, and then managing to get a Democratic/Independent majority in the House that will push for impeachment. Realistically, we are saddled with Trump for at least 2 more years, to be followed up by one year of Pence, unless he's also being impeached. But even if we do manage to get them out and replaced with more reasonable office holders, the damage that tRump has already done will last at least a century. This we can estimate from how long it took/is still taking to remove the vestiges of Woodrow Wilson's racist policies.
