The label is meant as a slur to discredit us. But that won’t change the fact that leftwing populists speak to anti-system anger in a way that others don’t ( Read more... )

Good post and article. Per my very left-wing, always voted Dem parents and grandparents (now all passed on) we never should have rolled the Farmer-Labor party into the Democratic party decades ago. They are better then the republicans, but still only throw farmers and laborers a few crumbs at best.

Commentators like Vanity Fair’s James Wolcott try to break down the movement’s main currents: a handful of randos on Twitter, Glenn Greenwald, Susan Sarandon, Tulsi Gabbard and Cornel West.

Not bad company, if I do say so myself.

Susan "Trump's election will start the revolution while I look on from fashion shows and my mansion" Sarandon is "good company". lol At least Greenwald writes sense now and then.

I don't think the progressive left in the US has many better ideas to break through to voters either. Reaching out to white voters and convincing them they're wrong to vote for the GOP is the same shit the so-called center left has been trying to do for decades. Patting them on the head and saying they were just frustrated as the reason they voted Trump is silly and I would bet my meager belongings they'll go for the GOP candidate 60-plus percent again in 2020.

I suspect that you are correct!

I know some people here would probably call me a cockeyed optimist (or worse, lol), but I'm not ready to give up on the Democratic party just yet. If somebody died and made the alt-left god, I haven't gotten that memo, and I know a whole mess of other folks who didn't get it, either.

Speaking of which, there's a local Dems meeting tonight, and we have had to keep moving to bigger and bigger meeting rooms every couple of months because there are so many people who want to get involved. I would estimate there are are 5 or 6 times as many people coming now than there were a year ago, maybe even more. Good times!

In addition to resisting the cheetoh, in my state we're figuring out how we're going to get rid of our douchebag Repug governor next year, and in my congressional district we're making plans to ride our douchebag Repug congressman out of Washington on a rail at the same time. It's exciting, and I am very excited to be part of it. 😆
