BOISE, Idaho - The LGBT community is reacting to a controversial social media post on the private Facebook page of Idaho's first lady.

It was brought to our attention by an upset Six On Your Side viewer.

The Facebook post is a meme that makes fun of Caitlyn Jenner's gender transition, and it was shared by Lori Otter to her Facebook friends.

Description of meme and Lori Otter's shittiness )

idaho, discrimination, you stay classy, flames on the side of my face, *trigger warning: transphobia, fuckery, transphobia, bullying, otters!, how to win friends and influence people

Incorrect use of the otters! tag because I'm shady like that.

Adding actual otters to this post would not be a bad thing.

Leo Morales with the Idaho ACLU says his agency supports the first lady's right to free speech.

"That freedom to post or to "like" is extremely important, but it's also very important to understand that those comments also carry a very hurtful tone towards others."

This reasoning, which the ACLU uses time and time again is why I can't support their position on free speech. I can't see anyone saying that the state should shut her down. So what's the point of this free speech narrative, when all that does is a) confuse the limitations of the philosophy of free speech, which they're advocating here and which they shouldn't be since they've self-avowedly only deal with the Constitution, with the actual 1st amendment right, which is extremely limited, and b) perhaps inadvertently imply that other people's speech in outrage or to demand some human decency isn't as important to liberty as the right to freely hate. No thanks.

This is not only transphobic but also misogynistic. The implication seems to be that going from male to female is a demotion in status.

I'm gonna be 100% honest, when I saw the headline, I misread "first lady Lori Otter" as "Lady Lori Otter" and thought she was some kind of performance artist.
