When this news first broke, none of the news articles I read stated his political identification, though they did say that the state Dems denounced him. So at long last, and still not directly stated, news articles are saying he's a Republican. How I miss those halcyon days of reporting when a politician's party affiliation always appeared in parenthesis next to his name in the first mention.
