This is absolutely fucking disgusting. I'm legit in shock that anyone would even PROPOSE that this should happen. I don't know a single doctor who would keep such vital information from their patients. They're not taking into account the quality of life of the fetus OR the parents. There are many developmental issues that are so severe that it's kinder to abort the pregnancy than allow the baby to suffer for its entire life. Caring for a disabled person is no joke and when that person is your child, it consumes your entire life. People should have a choice as to whether they are prepared to live with that. These "pro-life" fuckers care more about abortion being made illegal than they do about the consequences for families - I hope they burn.

See my comment below. I was not eloquent. I am just so fucking tired of this state's government being so gross and taking away rights to choices that are none of their fucking business.

No problem, I had to take 5 minutes to go scream into my pillow before I could even manage to put together a coherent comment so I get it completely.

I'm not a doctor, but... wouldn't lying to a patient violate their ethical responsibility?

Definitely. It would be a violation of the ethical codes of any contracts that the doctor had signed but I suppose this bill would override that if it passes. As far as the Hippocratic Oath etc., it's all pretty much ceremonial nowadays. Though I can't help but think that any doctor who would okay lying to their patients this way shouldn't be a doctor in the first place.

Yeah, like... I don't think I could practice under those conditions. I watched a segment about the hoops women have to go through to get abortions and the doctors looked so dead in the eyes, like "this is complete nonsense but I have to tell you anyway because the law makes me..."

I would think even the most pro-life parents would want to know about birth defects so they could prepare themselves and their lives. Taking care of a child with disabilities or a birth defect is no easy task. If my cousin and his wife hadn't known about their son's heart condition before he was born, they wouldn't have had the time to research it and decide on a course of treatment with his doctor for him following his birth. I can't imagine what would have happened if they'd had his condition sprung on them when he was born. The extra time might have saved their baby's life. Doctors have no right to keep this information from parents.
