Black history month post: Black Canadians' long history of military service

OP: I thought it might be interesting to do a post having to do with Canada (i.e. since I'm from there), and since (white) Canadians tend to be woefully uninformed about their own history of racism. :-)

During his first go at the military, my ex-husband trained with Cpl. Dyer in Wainwright Ab.when they both went into the Regular Force infantry. My ex ended up having to drop out due to injury and Dyer was one of the very few guys who encouraged him to heal up and try to get back in the Army later on, in a different trade.

It really hit him hard when he found out about his death and kept saying if he lived, Dyer could have been one a really well respected officer.
