yeaaaaah i suspect this will be all tied up in a lil' neat bow when Trump adjusts the Supreme Court according to how his corporate buds tell him

I know, right? If it goes before the Supreme Court, it could be really awesome (if at least one of the conservative court members does their freaking job) or really, reeaaally bad.

The leader of the statehouse Democrats, Craig Ford (D-Gadsden) said the state should take the opportunity to transition to an independent system that doesn’t allow the majority party to draw maps that help them hold onto power.

I laughed.

But this is still a great ruling! Florida had a similar ruling and our districts were redrawn.

EDIT: Should specify those were our U.S. House districts - our state house districts are still a li'l messy

This is why more states need to take the power to redistrict out of their hands and giving it to outside commissions that are either Bipartisan or non-partisan. Right now 8 do it for federal seats and 14 use it for federal and state seats (7 more partly use commissions) and that is a step but getting more states to do needs to be done. I hope it happens in Alabama but we'll have to see.

Gerrymandering should be illegal, period. It's a disgrace and a threat to democracy.
