The American left will be reborn under President Trump

Jan 21, 2017 12:23

Clintonian-centrism was defeated in November, but attempts to repeal Obamacare show the Republicans are weak and divided. Now is the time for the left to craft a populist alternative.

Donald Trump is now the most powerful man on Earth. You would expect the American left to be despondent; it’s not. The left is stronger than it has been for decades ( Read more... )

In November, Clintonian-centrism - whose compelling selling point was the ability to win - was defeated

No it's compelling selling point was it wasn't extremism and had thought out policy. Something no one else running in November could claim.

I hope the moderates stays strong and in 2018 and 2020 go at it again, but only time well tell.

centrist corporatism is not going to win in 2018. It lost the Democrats the house and Senate and state level positions. what is needed is a party that will stand up to corporations to do what is best for the people and which will also protect their fundamental rights.

See I said moderates. I did not say anything about corporatism and they are not one in the same. That a lot of people on the left can't or won't see that says more about the left that about the moderates.

The center is about balancing the extremes of the left and right. Of creating small changes that can be helpful and positive in ways that limit disruption. It's about not having a revolution of any kind but steady gradual growth.

Do you know how far to the right we are right now and how further we will be under Trump? incremental changes are not enough, we are like a frog in a pot filled with boiling water with the slow boiling setting. We need to scare the shit out of the GOP and Wall Street so they will actually give us some acceptable measures, rather than crumbs at this point.

my mother’s healthcare has gone up even though Obama campaigned on this stuff.

This is why we have to understand that the left isn't incredibly fact-reliant either, thought the right has abandoned facts completely. Yes, premiums went up. And they would have gone up higher without ACA, so not only did the ACA help people, it diverted worse outcomes. However, that is apparently useless and too complex to campaign on.

IA. And people's unwillingness to see nuance is one reason the far left hates Hillary. And it pisses me off even more than the GOP, to be perfectly frank.
