God I was going to make a post about this but I started sobbing watching the videos of the Aleppo civilians saying their final goodbyes and I had to lay down to calm myself.
I can't imagine what it's like for them, all this for proxy wars and power squabbles. It's why I take issue with politicians/pundits calling the world a "chessboard". This isn't a fucking game, and people aren't pawns.
My heart goes out to all those who suffered and I will definitely look into those links you posted to help.
this is one of those situations so overwhelmingly awful and sad i have no idea where to begin to process it. i thought dan rather's post on facebook last night touched at the heart of it: "In short, it was a place where human beings lived. loved, and dreamed. It is now a place of nightmares, torture, and death. Part of our human family has been torn asunder and none of us should be immune from that pain."
i also really appreciate the "what you can do" links at the end. that helps a lot.
I cannot come up with words to express how this event makes me feel, it is beyond comprehension.
I don't want to appear callous, but what it happening now in Aleppo (and in Syria) is hitting me so hard because this happened in FOUR YEARS. Cheeto Hitler is only a few steps away from being the president, and he is just as bad, if not worse, than Assad. If Syria could fall in four years, the United States can as well. People need to stop trying to comfort those in the US by saying "it's only four years" because we are now seeing first had, what can happen in "only" four years.
