So in Marathi, which my family speaks, there are two forms of you just like French and Spanish, depending on who you're talking to. Hindi actually has three. I don't know about any other language of India, but I'm pretty sure all of them other than modern English have something similar. Anyway, a LOT of folks use the formal you to address their dad and the informal to address Mom. I refuse to do that. I used the formal for my grandmother, as she's TWO generations above me. She told me I should use informal with her. I asked what about my dad? No, I should use formal with him. What the fuck? I have brought this up to Marathi family friends. And they justify it with "Well you're closer to your mom than to your dad." OK well I sure as fuck am not closer to my grandmother than I am to my dad. Some Marathi speakers do what I do (use the informal with both their parents), like my cousin and one family friend. But so many Indian-Americans who would see my point don't have any interest in keeping their heritage language alive at all, or they'

I just finished filling out my home ballot and I'm going to drop it off in about an hour. I wish I'd gotten a "nasty women vote" shirt for today but I suck.
I was number 106 at my polling place this morning. =D My aunt was 108 and my grandmother was 109. It was busy enough, I suppose, though it's hard to tell because I don't think there's enough registered voters in my township to make a line of any size. My county will go for Trump (ugh), but we three did our part for the Dems.
No harassment. A couple of young guys were handing out flyers, but they were friendly. Inside there was a dude that sat at a far table and half-heartedly glared at everyone, but he may have just not had enough coffee yet. I look about as cheerful myself without coffee in the morning. In any case, I hope this relative peace holds, even though it I know it's not likely. =(
