Fun fact (totally being sarcastic here), a civic group just tried to get approval to set up a statue of Park Chung-Hee (father of the current president and one of the most divisive figures in Korean history) in Gwanghwamun, the place where all the protests are going on right now (like in the photo). They made their announcement last week amidst the growing scandal; they have such great timing.

The Seoul city government shut the idea down, saying that they have no plans to place additional statues in the space and that the response to the idea has been mostly negative. The $158 million the group plans to spend on memorial projects for this dictator is fucking insane as well.

wow, yeah that's just near unbelievable. and like, on a personal level, I actually feel a lot of sympathy for Park Geun-Hye. But then like, as the president of a country it's not just a personal tragedy/case of abuse/brainwashing anymore.
