i was checking fivethirtyeight the way some people use a worry stone, but i've had to keep it to once a day - watching those numbers fall like a rock thrown off a cliff is so terrifying and disheartening.
i'm genuinely scared about next tuesday. i thought i was stressed in 2012, but that seems like a walk in the park in comparison. how the fuck did we get to this point?
I don't want to start an argument, I just want to make a simple statement: I absolutely do not believe Hillary Clinton is particularly corrupt, not because I'm a blind, starry-eyed supporter, but for the same reason I don't believe in the vast majority of conspiracy theories: Occam's razor.
I know that's not a popular opinion around here, but that's where I stand. God knows Hillary has had plenty of opportunities to engage in corruption, but with the amount of people who have been sniffing at her heels every second for the last few decades, I can't believe someone wouldn't have been able to pin SOMETHING on her by now, if there was anything to pin.
Occam's razor says the simplest explanation is usually the right one. The simplest explanation for why no one has been able to get the goods on her is that that there ARE no goods to get.
And now we are told the entire FBI hates her guts. Surely they of ALL people would have been able to nail her ass by now if it was at all nailable.
You're right about us having different definitions. I apply that word more selectively than you do, I think.
I certainly agree that fixing any election is wrong, but I'm not necessarily comfortable labeling someone as "corrupt" based on what amounts to a conversation fragment.
One dictionary definition of corruption is as follows: "dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery."
I tend to associate the word corruption with doing something dishonest or encouraging someone else to do something dishonest for personal gain, monetary or otherwise. I don't see any personal gain for a US government official in influencing an election in another country. I'm assuming she had some goal in mind for wanting to do that. It does NOT make fixing an election right or okay, but for me, that doesn't quite fit the definition of "corruption
( ... )
I agree with delicious_pocky about the headaches that would cause for her.
Also, I'm not sure I understand what his motivation would be for trying to get her to ask for his resignation, when he is free to resign on his own any time he wants.
Do you mean that he wants to make her do that because it would result in trouble for her? If not, I'm lost lol.

And Comey needs to go. Even if you ignore his obvious attempts to effect the election, the FBI is leaking like a sieve.
