Russia voted off UN Human Rights Council

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Russia has been voted off the United Nations Human Rights Council in a stunning rebuke to the country which is increasingly being accused of war crimes over its actions in Syria.

I think looking at Saudi Arabia's re-election here is missing the forest for the trees.

The way the UN voting regions are distributed may be flawed, certainly. But the article explains why Saudi Arabia was re-elected - there were simply no other contenders and a certain number of seats for the region had to be filled. They couldn't not win. (China was also re-elected for the same reason in the same region, and is also not a stellar example of human rights.)

Really, the newsworthiest thing about this post is that Russia was not re-elected, because that's actually a new development.

Where are they going to find a stellar example of human rights in the Middle East or Asia?
