John McCain: Republicans will block anyone Clinton names to the Supreme Court

Oct 17, 2016 17:14

Almost immediately after news of Justice Antonin Scalia’s death broke, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) proclaimed that “this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President.” And, with rare exception, this has been the Senate GOP’s message since Scalia’s seat became vacant - let the election happen first, and whoever wins ( Read more... )

Well, this just figures. So now we have even more motivation to get the Senate turned blue in  November. I just hope that every Democrat and every progressive--basically everyone who isn't a Trump fanatic or any type of far right wing nut--will go to the polls and vote for whatever Dem candidate is running for the Senate in your state. Even if you don't want to vote for Hillary, please vote in the Senatorial and ALL other down ticket races.

P.S. Fuck John McCain!

Interestingly, this really might have a serious impact on the downticket elections. Traditionally when presented with a presidential election that has a highly likely foregone conclusion, moderate voters tend to vote the opposite party in the downticket for the sake of "balance".

But everyone who's not a hardcore conservative has had enough of this obstructionist nonsense. And McCain opening his big mouth is going to influence those moderate voters. I think that a bunch of them are going to say, "Oh, not THIS shit again!" and vote Democrat because they want Congress to do their damn jobs.

McCain himself has enough of a lead in Arizona that it (likely) won't affect him directly, but in states like Missouri, Nevada, and Pennsylvania, a small shift in moderate voters can absolutely decide the Senate outcome.

Even some people I know who ARE hardcore conservatives are fed up with this BS and are saying that for the first time in their lives, they're voting blue this election. I hear a lot of variants but the gist is usually that the Republican party has made a mockery of the conservative values that they support, and they cannot in good faith vote for that. Some have gone as far as to comment that many more Democrats are showing the conservative values (fiscal responsibility is a common one I see) that are important to them far more than the Republican party is right now.

Others who don't feel that voting Democrat is the answer are looking at independent and third party candidates.

I don't know how widely held an opinion this is but the fact that I know more than I can count on my fingers says to me that they've gone and fucked themselves over with their main base; all of the folks I know who have said this are 50 or above.

God, please let Trump be enough for Americans to utterly turn on the Republicans.

Please, please, please.

I hope I get to see the Republican party fall and never come back in my life time.

I hope they do it though! 2018 midterms never looked so good.
