A director of one of the orphanages that participated in the match said the name had been selected by an athlete from the team, a minor, and was not changed in time.

Not sure what to make of this statement. Is this person trying to put the blame for this odiously offensive name onto one of the kids and imply that the adults who were supervising this program were somehow NOT responsible? Because if so, he/she is full of it.

Even if a kid did come up with the name, a responsible adult should have put the kibosh on it INSTANTANEOUSLY. And that's IF. How many kids have ever heard of Zyklon/Cyklon B? Is that something that's common knowledge over there, among children? Because it's sure not on this side of the pond. I doubt that it's even that well known among adults, in the US at least. I knew what the stuff was, but that's only because I'm a history nerd, especially when it comes to the Holocaust and WWII.

Bottom line: no matter who came up with this, it's inexcusable.

Are you insane? Or are your memories that short? 70 years, is that how long it takes you to forget what you have suffered, what your parents and their parents suffered from this regime of tyrants?

Adults were supervising this team, weren't they? I don't buy for a minute that this whole thing went through without a single adult picking up what name they were using and what it was in reference to. It's more like WWII is notoriously downplayed and the racism left unresolved in the Czech Republic, and those responsible for these incidents only pretend to give a shit when caught.
