If this really was to ban abortion in every circumstance, including to protect the life of the mother, that really shows you were their values are.

It's so sad that avoiding a total ban is what already counts as a success in this situation, in a country that already treats DFAB people like living incubators to begin with. I mean, obviously I'm glad this ridiculous proposal was defeated, but it's still fucking disgusting that these politicans have an easier time humanizing a fetus than an actual living person whose bodily autonomy they're disregarding.

Because, let's face it, that fetus might turn out to be DMAB. Or, if DFAB, might grow up to produce DMAB people.

Maybe it's extreme, but somehow I feel like, if somehow DMAB people came to be in another way and all pregnancies in DFAB people were guaranteed to result in more DFAB people only, the people who are up in arms about abortion would immediately care a lot less about the whole thing.

It is extreme, but I also think this is just the kind of extremist mindset that anti-abortion bigots have.
Although, I do still think a big part of it is straight up control - cis dudes just love exerting power over anyone and everyone, and women as well as DFAB folks in general are a prime target, as these same cis dudes believe they're "naturally" entitled to tell such people what to do. Especially when the issue has jack all to do with cis dudes, they really love making it about themselves and their so-called morality then.

They said on the radio that the church is pushing this a lot and that this probably wasn't the last time this topic became an issue. But for now I'm very glad.

People give a lot of flak to POC countries in the world for their women's rights records. India's problem with violence against women has gotten more awareness, as it should. But to see white ladies make a big show about that while ignoring things that go on in Europe and North America...at least in India, you won't face legal barriers to having an abortion. The lady who died in Ireland from pregnancy complications, she wouldn't have had she still been in India.
I'm glad Poland won't have a total ban on abortion, at any rate.
TLDR white folks are perfectly capable of having horribly backwards views on women.

This is not an either/or situation: India, Poland AND Ireland are all TERRIBLE when it comes to women's rights.

I have NEVER heard white ladies clutch their pearls about how horrible to women Ireland is. I hear them clutch their pearls about how horrible to women India is All. The. Damn. Time. That's the difference.
