Ugh this sucks.

And it's been hot as fuck here in LA. Monday it was over 100 degrees, yesterday it was 90something and it's going to be mid-80s for the rest of the week. In autumn.

I pray we don't get hit with another heat wave in October like we did last year.

Yeah, I'm in the East Bay and it was 98 when I left work at 5pm... by the time I got back to my place, which is considerably close to the water, it cooled down to 91. I was just like "it's late September. This is not right." Growing up, we'd get like--- pffffttt---- three 80+ degree days in summer if we were lucky, and now it's the norm

Yeah. I was driving back on Monday from Arizona (where it was actually cooler). My friend stayed at my place a few hours after I left and when I got home (I'm Santa Monica adjacent) I quite literally thought I had walked into an oven. She had shut all the windows.

I texted her and she said, "Well, I didn't know if anything was gonna get crazy or if it was going to rain."

Sis...you used to live in LA, you know what it's like.

Can people start taking global warming seriously now?

I doubt people will...I hope if/when people do, it isn't too late.

People seem to think of it something "far away" they don't have to worry about and I'm like... have you walked outside recently

exactly!

i remember in 2004, halloween just didn't feel like halloween. i grew up in southern california and halloween always had a very specific feeling. it wasn't really hot and really cold at the same time (i know this sounds weird, but that's how it felt...like it would depend if you're in the sun or the shade, and what time of day), it would be a really windy day with many periods during which there wasn't much wind, and it would be super dry. halloween in 2004 didn't feel like that, it even rained (or drizzled) at night iirc...and it hasn't felt right since then.

i remember that halloween clearly because it had been the first time i did anything to kinda sorta celebrate halloween since my dog's death in 2002, and my friends and i had talked about how it didn't feel like halloween. i didn't think it was related to climate change then, but in 2005 and 2006...i started to suspect so and i still do.

I hope we only destroy ourselves, unfortunately it seems we'll be taking a lot of species with us...
