This is a protest I can get behind. What makes it a particularly significant action - and the reason I donated a big chunk of money after the last post in _p - is because this is finally getting the plight of indigenous Americans into the news again. Internationally. This isn't just a story on ICTMN, this is world news. And American Indians are finally being presented as something more than just medicine men or casino tycoons. The kids out there are spreading truth about issues way deeper than "just" another pipeline. It's inevitable this thing will get built somewhere, eventually - ETP isn't just going to throw away a 4 billion dollar project - but the more noise people make about it the better. This is some proper grassroots shit, the kind of stuff we all need more of.

Amen; I have friends who live on the Standing Rock so I've gotten to see video and pictures from the very beginning--it's grown from a handful of people to thousands, and the peace and dignity and yet firmness and resolve of these folks, standing together and saying "You are NOT going to fuck us over again NOR will we allow you to potentially fuck up things for millions of other people" has had me in awe.
