The Hillary Haters

Few figures in American political life have inspired such deep and decades-long contempt. But why?

I remember the exact same as you, OP. Which I suppose is why I'm protective of her. As a 12 year old kid, who didn't really have American political role models like Hillary, who didn't want to "stay home and bake cookies," either, she meant the world to me. And the hatred for her became so embedded into our society that people don't really question it the way they should.

I think it's striking to compare the way the left responds to Obama and Hillary, when they're nearly identical policy-wise and her tenure as SoS was under his Presidency. Obama, of course, has a lot of personal charm, which I do think is part of what makes people less critical of him. The "who would you like to have a beer with" effect.

I agree with this whole comment (except I was a lot older than 12 when she was flotus, lol), but this bit really jumped out at me. I would love to have a dollar for every person I've heard say, "I don't have anything against Hillary, I just don't agree with her POLICIES," while at the same time radiating the visceral hatred described in this article AND stanning for Obama, whose freaking policies she was carrying out.

I'm sick of people complaining about "Hillary's" policies when the policies they're talking about are Obama's. I can't recall another Secretary of State being vilified and held PERSONALLY responsible for their boss's policies the way she has, and I find that very telling.

See this is the thing. Hillary is very flawed, yes, but not moreso then other politicians. I understand why she gets criticism but not why she gets such a disproportionate amount of it compared to other politicians.

I can respect people will dislike Hillary when they are equal opportunity and dislike other politicians that share her political views. But I have to look sideways at people that hate Hillary but think Obama is amazing. Ummm...the same Obama who approves drone strikes that kill innocent people? The same Obama who supports TPP? He's amazing but Hillary is the most evil thing to walk this earth? Sure Jan.

Bill Clinton, Obama and Joe Biden are well-liked despite the bullshit they've pulled all because they're guys you have a beer with. It's so gross. It's unfair.

this is my issue with the venom Hillary gets, too. It's not equal.

my biggest dilemma in the 2008 primary was not knowing whether to vote for Hillary or Obama because their policies were so similar. I ended up voting Obama purely because I felt he was more likely to be elected.

Hear hear!

You and I have the same sentiments. (I saw your reply to me on the Clinton transition post.) We are not stans blind to Hillary's faults. We see the very complex system she and other politicians are working within and have made our decision on which candidate to support based on the system we have and not the system we may want.

The problem with Hillary is the same problem I have with most politicians. They tell you want you want to hear but then turn around and do another thing. It's so rare to find a politician with any conviction or "genuineness" to them ( ... )

I have those same memories-- Republicans hated her, mostly because she was "uppity" for a woman, in their view. I imagine the baking cookies comment was because her temper got the better of her-- she was raised in the Northeast, and was a professional woman, and married a man who became governor in a Southern state. I am sure she heard no end of criticism for being a working woman in that context. "Bless her heart." :(

“I think that Hillary Clinton is a sociopath, so I think that her main interest is in her pocketbook, and I think that’s obvious from looking at the Clinton Foundation,” says Uday Sachdeva, a 22-year-old Trump supporter
This... WHAT? Along with several of the other criticisms, like "doesn't understand people like me" and "looks down on us peasants," are much more descriptive of Trump than anyone in a lonnnng time, so it's mystifying to see how many apply them to Hillary.
