It's definitely not seen as traitorous in Vancouver to talk ill of the oil sands and pipelines - but then, they want to transport their awful crap here and ship it out, and most everyone here recognises that that's just asking for terrible oil spills to happen in Burrard Inlet.

Eek, this thing is IN MY STATE (granted a part of the state that's hundreds of miles away from me, but still)--ALREADY under construction, and I didn't even know about it. UGH.

Of course, Rick Perry's name would turn up in something this terrible.

I got my first insight into the oil sands from Kate Beaton (Hark! A Vagrant) through her autobiographical web comic "Ducks". Do yourselves a favor and read it. It's very thought provoking and damning while also sympathetic to the workers and community depending on the Fort McMurray oil sands. The fact that the environmental risks are so well known, yet the Rick Perrys of this world are able to continue on with their schemes makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Anyway, from Texas, you have my sympathy, Canada, not my condemnation. The bidnessmen will do as they please, devil take the hindmost.
