I really hope that one day we can laugh at the mere idea of Donald Trump running for president.

Hello Rachel Maddow,

I was really surprised at her comments re: Clinton's speech yesterday. It felt awkward and how she held her head down, it felt like she knew she was saying something more personal and unpopular when she said it. (The top of the speech being shocking and self-centered etc.)

I thought about it later and I get what she was saying, Bill's speech framed Clinton as a "girl" and a wife, which is outdated - but overall the critique wasn't quite ... fair? He did go onto discuss her as a policy maker, etc. So I don't agree with the overall critique.

But Rachel, You're still my girl, boo.

Oh, I totally agree, my husband and I were actually shocked by her response. I mean, everyone reacts differently to speeches, and I'm not mad at her for it, but her takeaway vs. the takeaway of most people was so extreme.

Honestly, I think that she is (rightly) critical of Bill Clinton for his treatment of women (including his wife) while in office, and that colored her overall view of the speech. But the framing device he used was personal and effective, if a little sexist, and the speech presented her strengths well.

At least we know she's not afraid to speak her mind!

Honestly, I found her comments just ... wrong. I mean, I usually like her, but I love that Bill played the exact part that every spouse of a candidate so far has had to play. Which is not to just talk about what a great policy maker she'd be.

It's the first spouse's job to do one thing, above all, which is to humanize the candidate. To show people the personal side of them and make them someone you can relate to, to talk about their values, what they are like as a person...

To say that Bill Clinton should have done anything other than what he did, is sexist as hell, because it is saying that a potential First Gentleman, shouldn't have the same job as a potential First Lady.

And much as I personally love Hillary, she desperately needed that, she needs someone to tell people that she's not some distant calculating figure, but that she's a human being of flesh and blood, the girl that Bill fell in love with, and why.

It is that, which made his speech so great, and perfectly what it should be.

She was a mess during the uprising after Freddie Gray though. I keep side eyeing her hardcore through this whole thing.
