CNN is saying one of the shooters is dead, two others are still out there.

I'm afraid that this is becoming the new normal, that it's going to become police vs. civilians even more so than it was before. I know it's supposed to get worse before it gets better, or so the saying goes, so I'm hoping that this means it'll soon get better. I have to keep that hope or just start completely despairing.

And Fox News coverage of this OF COURSE featured people calling in and describing #BlackLivesMatter as "violent" and fearmongering about the rise of the Black Panther party.

I found out about this today from a regular customer at work.

He's from New Orleans, lived in Baton Rouge, and knew Alton Sterling (note: we live in Texas). Last week after the shootings in Dallas, he was saying to a cop here how he's not surprised, and that it looks like it's going to get worse before things get better. This morning the cops showed up knocking on his door to see if he had anything to do with this.

We're a seven hour drive from BR, but because a black man said this shit is getting out of hand and is going to get worse before it gets better, they thought he was potentially involved. Fucking ridiculous.

(I'm just glad that all they did was knock on his door and talk to him, though, and that he's still safe and okay.)

According to the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, this year's to date police fatalities were 60, compared to 62 for 2015. And 2015 was listed as one of the safest years for police officers.

Very simply stated- no unusual number of police officers have died this year. But what is happening is what always happens when the killings by the police are publicized- the mass media suddenly publicizes police fatalities in order to make it look like police are under threat.

The total numbers are the same yes, but Firearms-related deaths is up 74% from last year and that is a big change.
