oh, Room is one of my favorites. it's genuinely distressing - i have to take a breather at the halfway point - but so phenomenally well done. do it, you won't regret it.

(i need to see if i can find the movie somewhere. i'm so excited about it.)

Kindred is so great but so disturbing.

Can I ask for some book recommendations? I got a free Kindle as a bonus for some work I did and my semester's ending in a week, so I'd love to get back into reading. (College kinda killed my love of reading.)

Any type of non-fiction is my jam if anyone's got some great recommendations. Just finishing up What If? right now and I loved it :)

I always recommend Rabid: A Cultural History of the World's Most Diabolical Virus to people who like non-fiction. It's scary and fascinating. I also recommend anything by Mary Roach.

Ooooh that sounds awesome (and slightly terrifying), I'll definitely look that up. Thanks for the recommendations!

You're welcome! Yeah it's like a medical/anthropological/history book wrapped up in a horror story. Pretty gripping stuff for a non-fiction book.

Anyone have recs for very feel-good, warm, funny, lighthearted fiction? Nothing's off the table genre-wise. I enjoy chick lit as much as literary classics and epic fantasy. :)

I recently read Jane Austen's Lady Susan and it's very short but sharp as well and super funny.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han is really good YA chicklit.

I just read What is Not Yours is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi. Short story collection, but the stories interweave. Magical realism. Beautiful prose.

Well, considering my sis-in-law and I once went to the grocery in prom dresses for ice cream.... :)

I'm re-reading 'Out of Africa', a long-time favorite. I don't have any 'new' books lately, which is sad.
