Part of me is happy to see the DOJ doing what it can to pressure NC into doing the right thing, the other part of me is sad that the pressure point is education funding.

same. it really worries me, considering how little many GOP politicians care about education and funding it to begin with. but then again, this bill (and all of the similar bills in other states that it has spawned) is absolutely atrocious and needs to be stopped, so i'm hoping that they'll decide this isn't the hill they want to die on and give it up.

I think even NC would be wary about defunding UNC since it would make them a much less desirable basketball school, lbr.

There is that. I'm not sure how effective withholding federal education funding will be when it comes to whipping a group of people who want to privatize education into line, but NC takes a lot of pride in their university sports.

There are about 10 military bases in NC, including Ft. Bragg and Camp Lejune. Maybe the DOJ and the DOD should think about closing them down and moving military personnel to states that won't violate their rights.
