-------------------------- South Sudan's rebel leader Riek Machar has returned to the country for the first time in more than two years - as part of a peace deal.
It's been basically *completely ignored*, as far as most mainstream US media, i know that for sure. Which is just...fucking sad, and grotesque, and typical.
it's so obvious why the western media isn't talking about it. brown/black people are getting killed? nbd, it's part of their daily lives/who they are!!!
but they didn't hesitate to constantly talk about the situation in ukraine (which was necessary, but you get what i mean)
Another example is the war in the Democractic Republic of Congo (i.e. ex-Zaire) which lasted many years and involved a good chunk of the continent was actually deemed 'Africa's World War' and yet it received very little coverage in the West (and this despite being the continuation of the Rwandan genocide of the 1990s, which rather than coming to an end as many westerners like to think, actually resulted in a bigger continental war). It's absolutely shameful and the history of that country seems (in my admittedly non expert opinion) emblematic of the way the west has treated Africa.
