I live in Cleveland and I've had so many fights with empty-headed numpties who see nothing wrong with the name and logo. I can't stand Chief Wahoo--it's a horrible logo--and they're supposedly phasing it out and replacing it with a red "C" but I still see that damn image all over the place.
There was a recent protest outside the ballpark and a white dude who had come up to protestors in redface to friggin' argue with them came back this year and sincerely apologized to the man he'd been yelling at, so maybe there's hope.
I just wish they'd shitcan it all already. I also wish logos making fun of whites would work, but I've seen so many white people laughing over the idea and saying they'd wear them. No self-awareness whatsoever.
I'm from Cleveland too, and I'm really glad they're phasing out the Wahoo and sticking with the red block C. Of course I'm partial to the "Cleveland Indians" because it's the only name I've known (born in 91) but I believe it's time to change it. I wouldn't mind if we were like the "Cleveland Miners" or "Cleveland Heroes" or something like that.
Oh wow, I actually did not realize that Chief Wahoo was part of the Cleveland logo (i.e. for some reason I thought it was in Washington, go figure, I am ignorant... :). That makes it so much worse -so insulting to native people.
And OMG about the guy in redface, although at least he came back to apologize.
And I think you're right about how even with logos making fun of whites they still wouldn't get it.
There are a lot of these names which should be changed, I think (another which comes to mind is the Atlanta 'Braves', along with their 'tomahawk chop' thing, so gross).
I love Bomani and he responded to me one time on Twitter and he's 100% right..if this is an issue for you than the logo it's based from should be an issue as well.

D.C.'s name is a slur and therefore it shouldn't be used -I'll never understand what's so complicated
to understand about that.
As for names like the Cleveland Indians, it's cultural appropriation at the least, so no. Not complicated either. smh
