A federal judge ruled Thursday that Mississippi’s ban on same-sex couples adopting children is unconstitutional, making gay adoption legal in all 50 states.

GOOD. This is going to piss off bigots, but longitudinal studies show children of same sex couples fare just as well as opposite sex couples and tend to have more empathy.

There are so many children in the foster system and plenty of queer couples who want to adopt. I was actually a guardian ad litem briefly after college in Florida and you sit through a few cases waiting for yours to be heard. There were more than a few abused and neglected kids who were taken from their parents and living with relatives who were gay and lesbian, and the state would argue that they were unfit guardians simply because of their sexual orientation. This was only a decade ago too. So fucked up.
