A post where we can all freak out over Climate Change & mankind's self-made destruction

The scientist who first warned of climate change says it’s much worse than we thought

The rewards of being right about climate change are bittersweet. James Hansen should know this better than most - he warned of this whole thing before Congress in 1988, when he was director of NASA’s Institute for Space Studies. At the time, the world was ( Read more... )

this is why we cant have nice things, climate change, environment

Do you know David Suzuki? He basically said in this interview, comparing the past to the present that we are fighting a loosing battle because people only focus on money. Any battle that people won in regard to protecting the environment in the past, people loose again later.

I was just watching a video about this earlier done by Dr. Hansen. I'm no scientist so I didn't get some of it but it was informative and interesting.

I don't know what we are going to do. The forests are disappearing. Oxygen level keeps going down. We keep moving onto the other species' territories. So many of us don't even care about our human kind, so it's even more hard press for us to care about any other animals and plants.

So many people don't even do easy actions such as don't litter, and recycle your waste. There are malls that don't even have recycle bins. Fast fashion encourages and brainwashes people into consuming more than we need. How many people even understand the term: carbon footprint.

I feel like nothing will change much unless governments in office actually care about protecting the environment. They have the means to monthly remind people to reduce, recycle, reuse by way of advertisements. Yeah some people need that message to be constantly in their face for it to click in. I should wish for beef to be banned first, but most of the country would probably riot.

I would want to be Nux. Only care about fighting. No guilt, no nightmare.

Individual people not recycling and littering isn't what's causing large scale global warming, though.

I mean that so many people don't even do the basic actions such as keeping our places of living clean, and reducing wastes so we don't have to create more landfill so often. 3Rs are the basic but so many people don't even do.

Ehhhh, this is debatable... I mean, landfills let out methane, which is 22 times more harmful to the atmosphere than carbon. By having large portions of the population who do not recycle & compost, it makes the landfills larger, which means they emit more methane. Where I live, they actually have a "waste management authority" who goes around checking everyone's trash and shit because my county made recycling mandatory (and compost will be next July)...

Anyways, the point is- if we all recycled and composted, we could cut down landfills by (what they approximate would be) like almost 60%.... SIXTY fucking percent... that would reduce methane emissions immensely, and ultimately help battle climate change.

Does that mean that one individual littering or not recycling is the cause? No. But socially, there are a large enough number of people who dgaf that it's actually creating a large problem in how we have to handle our waste
