Great, now I have to build two walls. And by the way, Canada will pay for it. Believe me when I say, they'll pay for it. Justin Trudeau is such a leightweight choker it will be easy.
His point is lost on me - I take it he believes Americans should be more aware of Canada?
No, perhaps if Canada was more of a force, it would make sense.
& I dated a guy who was in the process of becoming Canadian and boasted as if Canada was like the supreme country or some shit. Left a pretty sour taste in my mouth - I'm obviously too American.
America is a force so it makes sense to me if so many people don't necessarily bother themselves with the hat of the USA. Aside from olympic hockey.
No; it was because they'd come off as condescending - condescending to me as a person and as if I was "less than" for being American. In retrospect I was young and dumb and didn't know better.
The US is a country others turn to which I acknowledge but I wouldn't label it a supreme country myself.
The average American can barely even just name the states in our own country, asking them to pay attention to anywhere else is skipping a step frankly.
America, the sovereign nation, is well aware of everywhere else because we probably have either military bases or political rivals there.
also there is a post on tumblr talking about how ironic it is that americans expect us canadians to accept them in open arms because of the possibility of trump getting elected, when they don't even give a shit about syrian refugees coming to america, or mexicans crossing the border, or central american migrants getting deported, and quite frankly, i agree.
Trudeau is correct. Most American don't know shit about domestic politics let alone international.
But re: your second statement, that always gets said around election season. I remember people saying that during Bush v Gore. It's an empty threat and --like the above poster said--the people who say they'll leave under a Trump presidency are mostly liberals who are pro immigration/anti deportation. If they weren't a Trump presidency would be their happy place lol.
