Trooper who arrested Sandra Bland in July is getting terminated and charged with perjury-- only faces up to one year in jail and a $4000.00 fine.

Part of me almost wishes that they hadn't even given him this because now if anyone tries to say that this officer didn't get punished (enough), his supporters can go 'yes he did, look at the money and the ~1 year of jail time.'

Unfortunately, that's the MAX jail time and fine. there is no guarantee that's what he gets if he's convicted.

If this was ancient israel he'd get the death penalty. If it was an accidental death (not saying this was) then he could flee to a city of refuge until the next seven year jubilee.

This is the one case I'm gonna be an asshole. Most of the police shoots ARE uncalled for. But this one... I can't get behind.

I've been arrested, for a stupid ass reason too. I didn't hang myself. I missed work, I suffer from depression and anxiety (I've attempted, before I got help). I mentioned it to the officer and I'm sure it wasn't even noted or anyone gave a shit. But clearly no one made her hang herself.

Was it stupid for her to go to jail? yes. But did anyone MAKE her kill herself? No.

This is where I'm having a problem with this case. I mean clearly she wasn't murdered. I think it comes down to trying to hold SOMEONE accountable to the unfortunate situations that have happened with police.
