Knowledge about solar panels has been repressed for years by oil interests. Someone probably lied to them, made their fear of new technology increase, so now they are afraid of change. Even the sheeple haters I knew can be downright ignorant and self righteous about it (about verifiable facts).
I love this story. It so validates my views about the religious right, the tea party, and the extreme right. It also scares me. To think that in the 21st century we have so many people who don't have even the most rudimentary understanding of science is in itself frightening. But what is really frightening is that they are ganging up on the rest of us in movements like the support they are giving to Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and Ted Cruz.
