I agree with you that chaos is exactly what is not needed. And dropping hundreds of strangers into backwater towns of maybe 300 souls is a recipe for chaos. It's easy to sneer at the narrow-minded yokels when the supposedly narrow-minded yokels have barely the human resources and built infrastructure to maintain their own needs, much less tend a new population of people with unfamiliar customs and very pressing needs. Small towns by definition are not cosmopolitan and that should be taken into account. It's a sort of urban bigotry to assume that urban culture is universal or universally desirable. There's also the issue that east Germany continues to lag economically, and many there feel as if there needs are being pushed to the back of the line in favor of an alien population. If new and extensive aid isn't made available for Germans as well as refugees in economically depressed areas, there will of course be resentment ( ... )

I agree with you that chaos is exactly what is not needed.

I kinda understand what they mean: There's a whole lot of bureaucracy connected to living in Germany, maybe more than necessary. It wouldn't be a bad thing to check if certain aspects related to refugees are indeed still relevant or could be improved. But to wish more chaos on us in order to overhaul the system is stupid, it won't help anyone to loosen up required bureaucracy in a state of panic.

There's also the issue that east Germany continues to lag economically, and many there feel as if there needs are being pushed to the back of the line in favor of an alien population.

Indeed, that impression would/will push even more people into the arms of the right wing parties.

But a lack of decisive leadership on helping refugees has precipitated the crisis, and continued dithering will only extend and deepen it.That's my fear, but sadly also my expectation. Seeing the people greet refugees with teddy bears and food is nice, but will the same people who are currently ( ... )
