In October, the framework triggered weeks of protests in Jefferson County, Colorado, after members of the local school board pushed for the creation of a committee to review the course and ensure it presented America positively.

that hasn't stopped, FWIW; there's a recall petition underway as we speak with tens of thousands of signatures to get these people off the school board.

ugh, this is fucking gross. all of it.

"This structure places more of an emphasis on concepts surrounding American national identity, the country's founding leaders and documents and the effective role of free enterprise in U.S. history."

The notion that history classes have to be about "why our country is the best ever!!" is so weird to me.

Of course I'm German, so history classes are mostly about "and here is how things went horribly bad".

One of the lessons we should be learning in history class is: If your nation's history makes you feel shame or embarrassment, then as an adult you should work to make sure future generations have many more reasons to feel pride. The lesson one shouldn't be taking is that it's okay to do terrible things because you can just pretend you never did them.
