That letter writer is a goddamn coward, just like most racists are. They have these oh-so-fervent beliefs but never the stones to stand up and say that they're the ones who believe it. Assholes.

Nice to see the town rallying so strongly behind the family.

14% non caucasian is ok, but 15%? Hell no. I wonder who the "neighborhood Race committee" accepted? Is it income based?

The traditional way to welcome neighbors is to bring over something edible, a pie or some cookies or something. If you don't want to intrude, I think gift cards are a reasonable modern-day substitute. Lindenhurst, LI has a population of about 27,000, so by my back-of-the-envelope math, the Copes family shouldn't have to pay for a meal for a couple of years. Step up, Lindenhurst.
