From the Great State of Ohio I would like to apologize for this asshat. I have already contacted my local Rep. and Senator about this fool. I just wish I lived closer to his "church" so I could show some boob support.

“I am sick that women can legally bare their breasts to children and to married men against their will in Ohio,” Johnston posted on his Facebook page following the recent protest

This is one of those "those Eve-tainted breast-having Jezebels 'tempt' me into being a lecherous old arse" argument by-passing "Hey, why don't you try to avoid being a lizard-brained lecherous arse" option.

This.

I can't wrap my brain around these people, who make 'sin' their life's focal point. Seriously, what went wrong there, that this mission is what he takes away from Jesus' teachings. Willfully ignorant doesn't cover it and I hate that he has a soap box to sprout this bullshit.

Alternately, why isn't he happy that those women are doing one of the things involved with being A MOTHER? Isn't that the one role he thinks is right for us?

I think there are fair odds that his concept of 'mother' involves bare feet, 'place is in the HOME', and "Get in that kitchen and bake me a PIE!!!"

Everything is 'fine' as long as teh womenz keep to their rightful 'place.'

I'm 7 months pregnant and totally within an hour of the Ohio border. I WILL be taking a trip over there if need be!

Also, REALLY??? I mean, I have large breasts, and even then hardly anything is visible when I nurse in public--and I nursed daughter #2 for over 2 years! It was only ever iffy when she got in that 'GET THAT THING OFF MY HEAD' stage, but I got great at nursing without a cover and without showing much.

I'm sick to death of the idea that my body should be shameful to ME because of the thoughts others could possibly have when seeing it.

Dude, when I went to India, I'd see ladies in burqas nursing their babies openly - as openly as you can get in a burqa anyway - and I didn't see shit. I was definitely showing way more skin. Maybe nursing burqas are a thing.

I always wanted to do nurse-ins and whatnot, but my daughter never cooperated. If I was in public, there were far too many things to look at, and she just wouldn't nurse! But I'm glad there are people with more cooperative babies who are able to go out and do those!

But...you don't have to be nude to breastfeed? You'd think a Bible thumper would make an exception for breastfeeding, right? How else can you talk about that except as a mother doing her motherly duty? Like, isn't that THE only way Bible thumpers see women? To say nothing of the fact that Mother Mary, the very paragon of female virtue, breastfed baby Jesus openly?
This makes negative sense.

I was in this mom group and I was surprised by how many of the women's husbands had rules about them breast feeding. Like, when and where they could, the age of the child when they had to stop breastfeeding, etc. I left that group in hurry.

The women's husbands had rules for them to follow about... breastfeeding?

I'm mentally flailing over that. Just. Jesus.

OTOH, I don't know *why* I'm flailing, because it's just another aspect of men wanting to control women and their bodies. *sigh*

It turned out all the women who were talking about it (I want to say around 5) were very religious and took that "obey your husband" crap seriously. One lady was really sad that she was forbidden to BF outside of the home, even with a cover. The other ladies were basically like "wow, that's very strict, I hope he comes around." NOPE. GOODBYE.

But yeah, I was just floored. Not everyone in the group was like that but I couldn't handle the ones that were and that everyone else mostly humored them. I guess I'm not that tolerate.
