Colorado birth control scheme causes drop in teen pregnancy.

Aug 11, 2014 09:56

What impact would giving teenagers free birth control have on American society? A ground-breaking programme in Colorado aimed to reveal just that, and has led to a dramatic reduction in the rate of teenage pregnancy and other benefits as a consequence.

But moral opposition to the scheme, and the nature of the project’s funding - a large anonymous ( Read more... )

"When you teach children that they’re animals - that they have evolved from pigs and dogs and apes - then they act like animals," says Bob Enyart, a spokesman for the group.

...But we are animals, you dipshit. Mammals, if you want to get specific.

"We are made in God’s image, and God’s likeness and for 13-, 14-, 15-year-old girls to be having sex is destructive for them"

Uhh during biblical times weren't women married when they were 14ish?

And earlier. In the middle ages a lot of political marriages were done with children under ten and we are talking six and seven year old's.

I know. But my mind also went to this instantly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c_zppPutQw - Too Young to wed. Trigger warning.

Basically a certain type of men always use religion as an excuse for policing girl's bodies one way or another and these men universally hate education for women. All around the globe. Bob Enyart here is a perfect example.

Fuck 'moral objections' - i'm sick to death of *some people's* morality causing direct and traceable harm to young women, young men, and citizens in general.

"Not everyone is happy. There is fierce opposition to the idea of offering birth control to teenagers from groups like Colorado Right to Life."

birth control prevents unnecessary abortions. more birth control equals less abortions. how stupid are these idiots?

In the case of IUDs many Right to Life people consider those murder because they probably affect the implantation of a conceptus.

Some of the Right to Life people believe that all hormonal based birth control is also potentially going to prevent implantation.

In the more extreme views of the Right to Life groups, the only acceptable birth control methods are barrier methods (e.g. condoms & abstinence). Then again some of the Right to Life people are driven by the belief that all birth control is immoral and against their church (including vasectomies, tubal ligation, etc.).

As for how stupid are these idiots, these are the same idiots who believe that teaching "abstinence only" is the best Sex Ed that we can do and that talking about how sex and pregnancy work will cause moral depravity and the end of the world ... or something.

But it's fine for the boys, amirite? Why else would God have given them The Almighty Penis?

I doubt you'll see anyone advocating for 13-year-olds having sex, but if they're going to do it they should at least be using protection. Sexually active 13-year-olds? Bad idea. Pregnant 13-year-olds and/or 13-year-old boys soon to become fathers? A whole lot worse.
