Jul 25, 2014 23:26

Creationist Ken Ham, who recently debated Bill Nye the Science Guy over the origins of the universe, is calling for an end to the search for extraterrestrial life because aliens probably don't exist -- and if they do, they're going to Hell anyway ( Read more... )

This is assuming that any hypothetical sentient aliens have souls like humans. I don't see any reason to assume this.

I was thinking that too. If aliens must go to hell then wouldn't anything outside of the human species be damned(like plants and animals)?

All creatures suffer death because of The Fall. Humans are unique among species on Earth because they have souls that live on after death. along with bodies and spirits.

What's interesting is there's a lot of variation on this - as a Catholic we're taught animals DO have souls, they're just not the same thing as human souls. It gets really complicated. You could say the same for aliens, they have souls but those souls aren't quiet the same as human souls? Providing souls actually exist.

So there could be billions upon billions of aliens out there, created by God and immediately condemned to hell with no hope of redemption.

Got it.

I'll never stop to enjoy it when these religious zealots paint their own god as this massive, unrelenting, unreasonable asshole in their quest to be the most special of snowflakes.

For the love of fuck.

The absolute, willful - nay, *gleeful* - ignorance of the religious right is just....

Overwhelming.

Can you still go to "Hell" if you don't believe in it?

Apparently God has so much free time that he can create the rest of this vast Universe just to enshrine Man's special snowflake status or something Idk.

ETA: also, started watching ST:tNG on Netflix and OH MY GODDDDDDDD THE FIRST SEASON IS SO PAINFUL.

It wasn't until they got Roddenberry out of the driver's seat that the series started hitting its stride. Starting in season 3 you start seeing a HUGE difference, particularly fewer clunky polemic speeches.

OMG yes the first season. I can't stand to watch it when it re-runs. As nesmith said, season three and onward is SO much better.

Season 2 of TNG is so bad it's hilarious. Season 1 is just bad.

This makes my head hurt. Besides, if aliens have souls, doesn't he have the responsibility to try and save those souls?
