Women who perceive abortion as shameful, who see low social support for their decision, or who hear that they should feel regretful are more likely to experience shame and regret in what the APA calls a "self-fulfilling prophecy."

This should really surprise no one.

But this also means that places where its already extremely difficult to get an abortion and there's a significant stigma will report psychological consequences more often, which are then used by people to indicate there's adverse psychological consequences and make things more stringent. and so on and on and on...
