Tribal customs =/= religion.

Honour killings are a thing in areas such as Pakistan, Turkey and some central African countries. But are unheard of in other Muslim countries.
It's like with female circumcision, it's more of a tradition than related to religion.

I would never say that men don't use religion to undermine and treat women as shit in general though.
