No, we're not celebrating Q rejoining the Q-continuum, nor is it Mexico's Independence Day! It's actually the celebration of Mexico's victory against France in the Battle of the Puebla on May 5th, 1862. Look it up it's interesting history ( Read more... )

It was my day off so I got some gardening done. It's also technically after frost date, so put in some flowers. Now hopefully they don't up and die on me.

Good luck! I had some mint/spearmint that were doing okay and starting to come back to life and the sudden winter weather we got at the end of April killed them. I was hoping they'd live but it looks like I just need to buy some new ones.

On other hand, we have climbing roses that we got permission to kill from the landlord that will not die. I poured round-up, ground clear and bleach at different times on these damn things and they are still going and have bloomed even more than they did last year. I'm beginning to think they are mutants.

Cut them down to the ground and then boiling water at base. You'll kill a lot of the soil bacteria too, which will likely help take the roots out so it doesn't come back.

My brother took me to see Captain America: Winter Soldier (I though it was a good movie!) and then we had Chinese food. =)

It was a good day but not so good in the future. Can't really talk about it in detail since it's work related *cough*went over my time limit*cough* but all I know is if they try to reprimand me on what happened today when I get back from my days off, oh boy. They gonna get an earful.

Other than that playing Elder Scrolls Online and starting to get frustrated. I need to level up to do some of the quests I have but ugh, grinding. I need to get better gear too.

I thought about going to the restaurants in town and laughing at drunk gringos. As this day is the only day of the year where we're awesome and amazing and not freeloaders who need to 'go back to Mexico.' =__=

It was my day off and I didn't leave the house. There are a lot of latinos where I live, but very few Mexicans, and I really didn't want to spend all day looking at gringos in sombreros getting drunk.

It turns out that I didn't miss it by skipping the actual day! I was texting with a (white) friend today and told her what I thought was an amusing story about one of the regional celebrations in Mexico and got back the response, "Any excuse to do tequila shots and shout olé." :/ Then, in my class, my teacher asked how people celebrated and I got to hear about my white classmates going out drinking.

So I still got a day of feeling awkward and uncomfortable about being chicana after all! What luck.

Worked a full day, played for an elementary concert in the evening.

Today I've taken the day off from work (I've put in so much extra time that my boss pretty much forced me), I just beat Donkey Kong Country Returns at 200%, and now I'm going to go pick up my paycheck and see where the wind takes me.
