So, at last there are some hopeful developments in this ugly story from last fall.  A high school teacher who raped his 14-year-old student and then received a 1-month sentence AFTER violating the terms of his probation and AFTER the girl committed suicide, is having that disgustingly-lenient sentence reexamined by a new judge.  And the judge is ( Read more... )

It seems to me that what is unusual here is that thousands of people who would never have heard of this a generation ago did hear about it via the signal boost of the internet. That makes this followup fabulous news: 21st century technology is making a concrete difference.
Without going out of the way looking for them, just being a news junkie, I see one of these weekly. By now, I figure that if the news item has spread enough for me to run into it, that means it's going to get fixed. (I do email, send letters, re-broadcast, etc., but I expect the final result to be certain.)

Jesus, that's two authority figures who had failed this girl. :( I'm hoping that justice will be dealt with and harshly as well.
