Wow. I can't believe what I just read. This old lady needs to just go ahead and die already. Her time is clearly up.

Her time was up and her beliefs were outmoded by the time the last gorgonopsid died.

Grogonopsids were absolutely scandalous. Why can't they be real reptiles? Mammal-like reptiles? it upsets the natural order. Kids these days and their homeothermy! it's unnatural!

She sounds like a completely over-the-top comic villain who hates women.
In March 2007, Schlafly said in a speech at Bates College, "By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape." ~ Wiki

Now, I haven't done any research on this, but I suspect that women marry men who make more money because a) women in general make less money than men, with typically "female" jobs being paid less, and b) if they meet their man in the workplace, that man might be in a higher position there because women tend not to rise that much (glass ceilings etc.), or if they are in the same position, he makes more money... because of the pay gap. Someone has cause and effect turned right around.

While women prefer to HAVE a higher-earning partner, men generally prefer to BE the higher-earning partner in a relationship

And this is not something genetically prescribed, but rather comes from old notions about men having to be the main provider. There were times when the fact that a woman had to go out and work was seen as a sign of poverty, and the aim of those who wanted to improve social conditions tried to ensure that women didn't need to work out of the house, which was a sign of progress.

You said what I wanted to say, but I was trying to figure out how to phrase it. So, ^THIS.

The other thing is I'm not actually sure that modern-day women prefer to have a higher-earning partner. I don't particularly care whether my husband or I earns more money, just as long as together we can support our family. My husband also doesn't particularly care which one of us earns more money.

I'm fine with that. But let's keep reading...

Well that was a mistake.

Suppose the pay gap between men and women were magically eliminated. If that happened, simple arithmetic suggests that half of women would be unable to find what they regard as a suitable mate."

She's discounting ... well, quite a lot of women, like those who would prefer to be stay at home mothers, don't mind if their husbands are the bigger provider, or even spouses who don't mind if their wife makes more than them.

I didn't either. I just googled, and she'll be 90 later this year, according to Wikipedia. And she's obviously still living in the mid-20th century.

Well that explains her age then- she's only 90 by our reckoning- but really shes been stuck in a time loop all this time. Maybe one day time-doctors may find a cure for this. Until then we should have pity for her and sympathy, being stuck in such a sad situation.

She's living in never. I think the Feminine Mystique and the women's rights movement are good evidence that women never wanted to be paid less for equal work and treated as domestic slaves; they simply took it because they thought they had no choice.
