I mean, I'm a Christian, but I have no issue whatsoever reconciling my faith with the current scientific theories. And why should I, there's nothing in those theories that contradicts the possibility of God as the creator.
But then these people just can't seem to understand mythology's use of metaphor as a way to understand something. Basically all creation stories come down to that, whether it's the monotheistic ones, or the Hindu one, or the Norse one or whichever religion you pick, all of them are basically people trying to find a connection with the creator through metaphor.
And yet it seems to be that it's only these creationists who have a problem understanding the difference between science and metaphor.
I think the problem is that they have no theology with proper methodology, which would include using evil, evil science to try to get at at the meaning of Biblical texts. I mean, the branch of Christianity I belong to requires pastors to study for years at a normal university, and the methods applied to the texts are the same people in the other humanities use, such as determining the origins of Biblical texts and the ideas they contain.
And once you have moved beyond "The bible is written by God, and all of it is literally true!", you have a lot more leeway in interpreting the texts, which also includes not necessarily having to follow all the rules made by people living in a desert several thousand years ago, or by someone who clearly had a problem with women (why hello there, Paul, what did we ever do to you
