there is this theory by Chris Goodfellow as posted on Wired. It actually does make some sense, given what we know.

I just hope they find the plane soon so they can get answers for the family members.

That is a very convincing theory.

If it wasn't for the aliens, I'd totally buy it.

Aliens are people, too.

Here's an article on Slate that points out that Goodfellow ignores a lot of evidence that doesn't support his theory: http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2014/03/18/mh370_disappearance_chris_goodfellow_s_theory_about_a_fire_and_langkawi.html

I hope it gets solved b/c my obsession with this is ngl.

The other day, when the news made a special report about President Obama's speech concerning Ukraine/Russia, I was pissed it had nothing to do with the missing plane.

The alien abduction theory. Reminds me of the two part episode of The X-Files where we find out the fate of Max Fenig.

In all seriousness, though, I too hope they find out what happened. My thoughts are with the families going through this very rough time.

I heard on NPR, who interviewed some pilots who have flown 777s before that to turn off all of that tracking stuff would take an expert, like a pilot or engineer. I don't remember the details b/c I need to read something to remember it, but it is strange.

Why is there a website inviting regular people to look at satellite images to try and find the plane?? Why does anyone think that is a good idea? Remember what happened last time they tried to engage the general public to "help" by looking at images in something like this? Reddit caused innocent people to be suspected of being the Boston Marathon bombers.

It'd be pretty hard to implicate minorities with this type of satellite imagery. Particularly, um, in this situation...

Yes, my point was specifically that minorities would be unfairly blamed, and not that perhaps it is not a good idea to have random people with no training looking at images on their own, on the off chance that they'll find something that experts can't.

Sarcasm is obnoxious, unskillful, and often difficult to interpret when one (like myself) resides on the autistic spectrum. I wouldn't advise its use in civilized debate, whatever the context!

The reason the Reddit thing was so catastrophic was because that group of users falsely implicated and began a witch hunt of an innocent person, who was then later (as far as I remember) declared missing and was presumed dead. You're going to have to walk me through your thought process a little more if you want to convince me that people looking at satellite photos is a somehow harmful exercise.
