I highly doubt Broussard's vote is up for grabs if he's spouting racist diarrhea and Republican talking points about the ACA. I wouldn't want to be part of a party that appealed to him.

there are a lot of dem voters that have been ~alienated~ by obama though. there are quite a few folks who will vote for democrats in state or even national elections that would never entertain voting for someone connected to Obama.

it would be nice if the dems would tell these types of voters to get lost, but they feel appealing to them is the only way to win in these mostly red states.

There are a lot of voters that have been "alienated" by Obama. Period. Just look at the polling just out today that while most Americans are in favor of the agenda of the Democratic party and the president, his approval rating sucks and most people say they plan to vote GOP this year. And since we know Democratic voters tend to sit out off-year elections, things aren't looking great at all for progressives ( ... )

I don't envy a candidate who has to chose between appealing to a bigoted voting bloc and losing to an opponent who would work to undermine the ideals the candidate holds dear. It's a choice between evils. But I think there's a lot to be said for holding to one's principles.

"I don't vote for black people, lady," he says. "No, ma'am. I don't vote for black people. They got their place, I got my place. That's the way I was raised."

This comment gives me greater understanding of the word despise.
