Born in Nigeria in 1930, Chinua Achebe attended the University of Ibadan. In 1958, his groundbreaking novel Things Fall Apart was published. So much love for Chinua Achebe and his writing. I read "Things Fall Apart" as a college Freshman and it really was eye-opening and helped me begin to understand how whitewashed my education was. Is, actually.

I read somewhere that some lit programs which were making students read Conrad's book were also having students read Achebe's lecture along with it, which is awesome.
