Hospital, family concur that brain-dead Texas woman's fetus 'not viable'

(CNN) -- For the first time, John Peter Smith Hospital acknowledges that Marlise Munoz, who is being kept on a respirator under Texas law, has been brain dead since November 28 and that the "fetus gestating inside Mrs. Munoz is not viable," according to court documents ( Read more... )

Court already granted permission for her to be removed from life support.

Jesus. I just read through the article you linked to, and this jumped out at me:

But Joe Pojman, executive director of the Texas Alliance for Life, said the judges decision "fails to recognize the interests of the unborn child, who is a separate patient."

The "interests of the unborn child" are going to be to let it go peacefully with its mother. What is WITH people, and their inability to see that sometimes life isn't the best option, if it's even possible?

I sincerely hope no one files any appeals, nothing to keep this horror story going on. The family -- including mom and baby -- deserve to be able to put to rest.

MFTE. Even if this fetus was carried to term what kind of life would it have? Probably a shitty, painful one.

and the same people who now fight to keep it alive, will cry hell and damnation if the family requires government aid to be able to afford healthcare for said child's care once it is born.

Some held signs reading "God stands for life" and "Praying for Baby Munoz and family," believing that doing whatever is necessary for the unborn child's sake was imperative.

Fuck those people. Seriously, just fuck them.

The source, I think, has changed since you posted this because that's not the article linked. The article says now (and thank god) that she has to be taking off the the machines by Monday at 5 per judge ruling. The hospital can still appeal between now and then. I really hope they don't. This doesn't need to be another Terri Shivo case.

I cannot believe their gall. Yes, God totes stands for using technology to Frankenstein a corpse into an incubator.

Ugh.

At least it (will be) over.

God, I can't with that God stands for life nonsense.

If we subscribe to the theory that it's in God's hands alone who lives and who dies, then he decided a while ago that neither the woman, nor the fetus should live. And human intervention is what stands in the way.

I'm glad this stage of suffering for the family is over and they can finally grieve. And I hope the anti-choice nuts leave them alone.

The debate on CNN last night over this was so messy. I hope Sunny Hostin was playing devil's advocate because of CNN's need to be "balanced." The preaching about the "child's" right to live was so embarrassing.

This is unrelated, but why do so many tags on ontd_p posts have weird slashes after them? I've been noticing it in a lot of posts.

Just saw on MSNBC that the judge ordered her taken off life support.

I hope those who are all like BUT THE BAYBEEEE are willing to pay the bills.

Yeah, but the hospital can still appeal, they have til 5pm Monday. Those pro-birthers aren't going to pay the bills they forced that family to rack up because people should 'take responsability for themselves'.
